The story begins on a black screen
Example of frogs
After controlling the frog, Mario and Cappy continue on to meet the Broodals, a set of anthropomorphic rabbits who work for Bowser as his "wedding planners". One of them comes down from their flying ship to fight Mario and Cappy to slow them down and keep them from catching up to the couple, as is usual for wedding planners. After defeating the Broodal, Mario realizes he can utilize his transformative ability to become electricity, so he rides a power cable away to another land, the game logo finally shows, and then he breaks the cable.
At the next land, Mario and Cappy find a powerless and defunct Odyssey ship and are filled with determination to fix it. At the top of a mountain they find Madame Broode, the manager of the Broodals, who is angry with them. After they fight, her necklace is immediately stolen and used as a power source for the Odyssey, and the duo flies away to their next destination.
An example of a single frog
At this point, depending on choices, Mario and Cappy go to various other kingdoms. They attempt to stop Bowser from evilly picking flowers in a forest (and fight a Broodal), and then find that he has also stolen a dress from a frozen lake kingdom (and fight a Broodal). They finally catch up with and fight Bowser in the clouds, and once again Mario gets decimated and falls to an island in a sea of purple, with a once again broken Odyssey, broken pride, and almost certainly at least a few broken bones.
Aftermath of the Mechawiggler
Our doublet's dancing done, their list of next stops includes a frozen wasteland, where they must possess a large blobby creature and force him to win a race (and fight a Broodal). Unfortunately, Bowser still manages to take the winner's cake for his wedding. They also visit the beach, where Bowser is trying to collect sparkling water, as La Croix prices are far too high in the current economy, as well as all other economies.

Next, on their way to Bowser's kingdom, they are confronted by the reptile himself, this time riding another reptile yet: his pet dragon, the Lord of Lightning. They blast the Odyssey out of the air and send it hurtling down to the Ruined Kingdom, where the dragon fights Mario directly. After defeating the dragon they repair the Odyssey and continue on their journey.
Arriving at Bowser's kingdom, our heroes step it up and fight two Broodals, then make a last attempt to reach and stop Bowser before he officially sets sail for the wedding. Bowser hat-punches Mario as he tries to leap onto the ship and leaves them behind, now facing the RoboBrood, meaning they must fight FOUR Broodals. Doing such allows them to fully repair the Odyssey and finally bring it up to full power.
The moon
Upon running up to the altar, Mario and Cappy are dropped through a trapdoor by Bowser, who is now free to finish the wedding and succeed in his plan. Instead of doing this, he decides to postpone the wedding and follow them to the core of the moon so they can fight. This is a serious red flag, and if your man ever does this on the day of your wedding, you should leave him immediately. Unfortunately for Peach, Bowser has her hanging from a chain, and she is unable to flee.
Bowser overestimated his own abilities and gets defeated, at which point the ground starts collapsing, and they all fall to the center of the moon's core. Mario possesses an unconcious Bowser in order to pick up Peach and smash through obstacles. They reach a lightning rod and convert to energy before beaming themselves back to the surface of the moon, which is still completely fine.
